• The Enlightenment began in Europe around the 1600s.
• They referred to it as the 'age of reason' because people wanted facts.
• Humans the ability to reason and wanted to break away from superstitious beliefs.
• People used their own abilities to make new discoveries.
• It let to the idea that all people are equal, the idea that people had natural rights and anyone can make important discoveries.
• It led to the  American, French Revolution and other independent movements.
