Industrial Revolution (bite size)

  • The Industrial Revolution involved the transformation of a technology relying on human and animal labor into a technology characterized by machines.

During the Industrial Revolution there was an emergence of factory systems and inventions such as the steam engine by James Watts helped the technological advancements of that era. The steam train and boat were part of the innovations that played a pivotal role as they transported people and goods from place to place. The steam engine improved trade between countries by enabling goods to be transported in large quantities.

The Enlightenment (bite size)

  • The Enlightenment began in Europe around the 1600s.
  • They referred to it as the 'age of reason' because people wanted facts.
  • Humans the ability to reason and wanted to break away from superstitious beliefs.
  • People used their own abilities to make new discoveries.
  • It let to the idea that all people are equal, the idea that people had natural rights and anyone can make important discoveries.
  • It led to the  American, French Revolution and other independent movements.
